The remaining victims are in stable condition after receiving emergency treatment. The public security organs extracted blood samples from the dead, and detected methanol components.Combined with the investigation by the public security organs and the diagnosis of medical experts, the death was consistent with the characteristics of methanol poisoning, and there is evidence to prove that it was caused by the ingestion of alcohol-based fuel. There are two kinds of methanol poisoning: foodborne and occupational. In China, food-borne methanol poisoning is mostly caused by drinking industrial alcohol containing methanol by mistake or drinking fake wine “mixed” with industrial alcohol containing methanol.Industrial alcohol, as the name implies, refers to the alcohol used in industry, which often contains methanol and other toxic and harmful substances, is not edible. As industrial alcohol can be used as hot pot fuel, glass cleaning agent, due to improper storage of industrial alcohol as normal liquor drinking caused by poisoning occurs. In addition, some illegal vendors use low-cost industrial alcohol to blend various alcoholic products (mainly bulk liquor), which also leads to the frequent occurrence of food-borne methanol poisoning.Methanol poisoning the incubation period is generally 2-24 hours a day, a few for 2-3 days, such as ethanol intake at the same time, it will prolong the incubation period, the symptoms are mainly dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fidgety, blurred vision, etc., in severe cases, the blind will, delirious, convulsions, difficulty breathing, coma, severe poisoning can cause death.According to the national Foodborne Disease Outbreak Surveillance System, 31 cases of foodborne methanol poisoning occurred in China from 2011 to 2019, with 257 cases and 47 deaths, with a fatality rate of 18.3%.In order to prevent the occurrence of food-borne methanol poisoning, The Health Commission of Zhangjiajie issued a safety warning and proposed the following comprehensive prevention measures: First, the management of the sale and use of industrial alcohol should be strengthened, and individual purchase and storage should be prohibited.Second, we should strengthen the crackdown on industrial alcohol production and sale of counterfeit alcohol illegal acts, further strengthen the connection of execution, severely punish offenders.Third, strengthen the supervision and traceability management of the whole process of alcohol and food production, procurement and sales, and strictly prevent methanol from entering the production process and fake alcohol containing methanol from entering the circulation process.Fourth, strengthen publicity and education, improve the general public’s awareness of the harm of methanol poisoning and self-protection consciousness, do not buy or drink liquor in bulk with unknown origin.Fifth, catering services, car cleaning and other industries to strengthen the preservation of industrial alcohol, to prevent the misuse of drinking.Sixth, medical institutions should improve the treatment ability of patients with methanol poisoning, and rapid correction of acidosis in the early stage of poisoning is the key to save lives and eyesight. When rescuing critically poisoned patients, the following treatment principles should be followed: (1) early removal of methanol in the body;② Correct acidosis;③ Protect the optic nerve and retina;④ Comprehensive symptomatic treatment and intensive monitoring.Disclaimer: This article is reproduced for the purpose of conveying more information. If the source is wrong or violated your legitimate rights and interests, please contact the author with proof of ownership, we will promptly correct, delete, thank you.Email address: newmedia@xxcb.cn
